Caapcity Requirements Planning (CRP)

Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP) is the process of determining in detail the amount of labor and machine resources needed to achieve the requred and demanded production. Open shop orders an d planned orders from MRP are converted into demand for time in each work center. The inputs needed for CRP are open order file, planned order releases, routing file, and work center file.

  • Open order file
    - It is a scheduled receipt on the material requirements plan.
    - Shows information such as quantities, due dates, and operations.
    - Can be maintained manually or in computer file.

  • Planned order releases
    - Determined by the computer's MRP logic based upon the gross requirements for a particular part.
  • Routing file
    - Operations to be performed.
    - Sequence of operations.
    - Work centers to be used.
    - Possible alternate work centers.
    - Tooling needed at each operation.
    - Standard times: setup times and run times per piece

  • Work center file
    - Consist of number of machines or workers capable of doing work.
    - Contain information on the capacity and move, wait, and queue times.
