Types of Planning Files in Data Requirements

DATA REQUIREMENTS

PAC need to have the  information :
  1. -          What and how much to produce
  2. -          When parts are needed
  3. -          What operations are required to make the product and how long the operations take
  4. -          What the available capacities

Planning files

Four planning files are needed : item master files, product structure file, routing file, and work center master file

Item master files
The files contains all of the pertinent data related to the part including :
  • -          Unique number assigned to the components
  • -          Part description
  • -          Manufacturing lead time
  • -          Quantity on hand
  • -          Quantity available
  • -          Allocated quantity
  • -          On-order quantities
  • -          Lot-size quantities

Routing file

The routing files record for each part manufactured and consist of a series of operations required to make an item.

Work center master files

The files collects all of the relevant data on a work centre. Such as :
  • -          Work center number
  • -          Capacity
  • -          Number of shift worked
  • -          Number of machine hours
  • -          Number of labour hours
  • -          Efficiency
  • -          Utilization
  • -          Queue time

Control files

Control in intermittent manufacturing is exercised through shop orders and contain data on these orders. The files must have details such as :
  • -          Shop order master file
  • -          Shop order number
  • -          Order quantity
  • -          Quantity completed
  • -          Quantity scrapped
  • -          Quantity material issued to order
  • -          Due date
  • -          Priority
  • -          Balanced due
  • -          Cost information

Shop order detail files

Shop order must has a shop order detail file contains a record for each operation needed to make the item. The files need the following information :
  • -          Operation number
  • -          Setup hours
  • -          Quantity reported complete at the operation
  • -          Quantity scrapped at the operation
  • -          Due date or lead time remaining
